whew!

Whew. I know they say that as you grow older, time really starts to fly. But for the last two months to have blinked by so fast, I feel at least one hundred!

Work is really busy at present, involving long hours and some logging in to work from home on the weekends (which is something I've always promised myself I would not do!) but it's either that or stay back late and miss my last train - which can add something like 2 hours to my trip home, so really best avoided.

Meach has been busy toiling away on a home automation job over the past 3 weeks. Because of the amount of commuting time involved, he made the imminently sensible decision to stay in a small cabin on the local campsite, which means that each Sunday it's been like packing up to go to boarding school on Monday. But then, of course, there is the return of the prodigal son (okay, hubby!) on Friday (the best bit!). It was originally estimated that the project would take a couple of weeks but there is so much more to do, I rather suspect I shan't be seeing him back here permanently for a few more yet... He's really enjoying the challenge of the work, even if there are long hours involved - and I've been promised a look over it all once it's finished (which I'm looking forward to!).

So we are both pretty zonked when it comes to trying to relax on Saturday and we seem to spend that whole day just trying to surface from all the subliminal stresses of the week.

Those of you who know me well will know that we have been very busy over the last year with renovations at home, as we are trying to get our house ready to put on the market. This is so that we can free up our investment here to start our 'retirement' project up north. What that means is that every spare moment at home is earmarked for some chore toward achieving that goal. I have to say, I really love the way the house looks now - apart from how untidy it is! We have re-tiled all the floors in the same tile (it was a real mish-mash before) and painted all the walls and trims white (it really is such a great backdrop for any colour you want to decorate in) which has opened up the space amazingly - it's now feels so spacious and clean looking.. well, as clean as any house can be with 2 hulking-great-slobbering-hair-shedding labradors can be!

My latest project is the transformation of the kitchen cabinets, from original country-style wood to 'modern' enamelled white, complete with trendy steel handles (I just love them!!!). I have a long way to go because I've very fastidious about how I paint - it all needs to be sanded down, cleaned, dustfree before I start the arduous task of applying several layers of base paint first, then a couple of coats of spray enamel. Meach is of the 'just-slap-a-couple-of-coats-of-paint-on-it' school and can't understand why it's all taking so long! But he agrees that the outcome is definitely really good to look at and I would definitely replicate the look in my next kitchen. I am soooooooo looking forward to finishing them all off so that I can start painting the two remaining untouched rooms - although I am trying not to think about how much more needs to be done!

Anyway, that's all for now folks - I'm going off to do my voluntary work now (visiting the old-folks home up the road) then I'll log in to work and finish off some issues before tackling the cabinet sanding.

Gosh, I feel tired just thinking about it all!
